Supporting Creators

Supporting the people behind each book is part of our creative process. Through our picture book projects, we aim to help creators develop their craft, explore ideas and build confidence while contributing to a book.

Learning through making

Each project brings its own creative challenges and opportunities. We shape support around the work involved and the experience of the creators taking part.

When offered, learning and creative support will be delivered online, so creators can take part wherever they are based. Depending on the project, this may include:

Specialist mentoring at key stages of development.
Workshops, tutorials or masterclasses relevant to a creator’s learning needs.
Regular creative conversations and feedback, with time to explore, revise and reflect.

Learning is applied directly to the book, helping creators develop skills they can carry into future work.

Lived experience and creative exchange

We value the knowledge creators bring from their own lives and communities.

Collaboration creates space to share perspectives, ask questions and make thoughtful creative decisions together. We want creators to contribute their artistic voice while developing work that reflects Algerian experiences with care.

Clear and respectful collaboration

Each project opportunity will explain:

The scope of work and expected contributions.
Commission terms and key dates.
How creative reviews and revisions will work.
Any mentoring or professional development included.

You do not need to have worked on a published picture book to introduce yourself. Relevant experience and eligibility requirements will depend on the role and will be set out in each call.

We’d love to hear from authors, illustrators and author-illustrators. Introduce yourself through our expression of interest form.
